The Relationship Between Bad Cops And Seat Belt Laws
No, I'm not about to suggest that seat belt laws are bad. In fact, its been proven to save many lives. So what's the relationship between the two? Not wearing a seat belt gives a rogue or bad cop the probable cause to stop you and abuse his power. Remember, a rogue cop will fabricate any reason to stop you, but at least you shouldn't give him the 'right' to stop you.
Many police departments across the country are now passing budget proposals to install on-board cameras in police vehicles. This is a good idea! It protects you and the officer with a tape of the events leading up to the stop. Of course this is bad for a rogue cop. He needs and depends on stealth and privacy. He doesn't want any evidence concerning his possible bad stop.
By law, no driver can be stop without a clear violation of some law. The only case is when a police rode block is established to check ALL vehicles for any violations.
And while we're talking about cops, this article is only pertaining to bad cops. A good cop is not going to stop you without probable cause. A bad cop will stop you for any cause.
Do yourself a favor and wear your seat belt. I know it's difficult and cumbersome to wear one. I struggle with this every time I enter my vehicle. But I believe that one can develop a habit of clicking the belt! If you need a reason other than safety, think about that bad cop.
Drive safe, obey all laws, and arrive home safe.
